Match Report: Bury 1-1 Longridge

Lowe levels late to force point at Gigg Lane

Benito Lowe's bouncing half-volley snatched a point for Bury with just over 5 minutes left to play to cancel out Jack Anderton early strike.

Town were forced into a late change to the line-up just before kick off as Dean Ing took the place of Luke Smith who unfortunately twisted his knee in the warm-up.

The game kicked off at 3pm in sweltering heat, so it's no wonder Longridge started red hot.

Homson-Smith played it forward to Anderton who hit a shot across Atkinson and into the far corner to fire Town into an early lead.

The Ridge weren't satisfied there as the great start continued. Some lovely passing play between Ing and Harries down the right before Scotty linked with Homson-Smith who then hit it just wide of the far post.

Bury then took their turn to attack on 10 minutes but some great defending from Sam Olawumi prevented a ball from reaching Obasoto at the back post.

The debutant Bayode backheeled past his man and ran round him down the right before winning a corner in a very nice move.

Homson-Smith aimed it for the far post. Ing connected and nodded it just over the bar.

23 minutes now on the clock and Harries and Ing continued to cause the home side problems as Scotty beat his man and crossed towards Homson-Smith who fired over from close range.

The hosts began to get on top around the half hour mark as Williams drilled a ball to Briggs who came close with a glancing header.

Lowe was then slipped in behind ten minutes later and the forward side-footed a powerful wide of Barry's goal.

Town make it to the break ahead, where the attendance was announced as 3,700.

It was fairly low-key until the hour mark when Elhassan fired just wide and not long after Lowe nodded over from a corner.

The 70th minute was a hectic one. It started out with Marshall running the entire length of the pitch before being halted by only the goalkeeper.

Barry was then forced into a big save to deny Briggs from a tight angle after the forward found himself in behind after a simple ball from the back.

Bayode made a good block from Lenehan's powerful effort from 20 yards.

With 6 minutes of standard time remaining, Lowe scuffed home a half-volley on the turn to level the scoring.

L.Hewitt made a great challenge to force a corner which Harries cleared from in the 95th minute.

Not long after and the full time whistle was blown to earn Town a well fought point away from home.

Town are in action away at West Didsbury & Chorlton on Tuesday 12th and then Burscough away on Saturday 16th.

The next home game is Garstang on the 19th in the Lancashire Challenge Trophy.
