Smash and grab Glossop steal all three points

The Ridge fell to a narrow defeat against in-form Glossop despite enjoying the majority of the game's chances.

Tom Lawless broke the deadlock with just under 15 minutes left to play firmly against the run of play.

However, the visitors put in a battling shift to earn their third win and third clean sheet on the bounce.

There were two debutants in the LTFC side.

James Rogerson started between the sticks whilst Ibrahim Keita Keita joined Liam Atkinson in attack.

Otherwise, Ryan McLean returned to the starting 11, taking the place of the injured Ben Trafford.

Pre-match, the league presented Liam Atkinson with his player of the month award, following his nine goals in seven games for October.

Following a beautifully observed minutes silence after a fantastic rendition of the last post, we got underway.

Leighton Hewitt was fouled early on, 25 yards from goal.

Harvey Roberts drifted it in but the visitors headed it out.

The resulting corner was then caught by Glossop goalkeeper Alex Brown.

The visitors then caught Town out.

Striker Tom Lawless raced onto a ball from midfield and slid a shot just inches past the far post after just 6 minutes.

After surviving the first scare, Town got a grip of the ball.

Some fantastic football in midfield involving Joe Adams, Jordan Dainty, Liam Atkinson and Ryan McLean resulting in Adams seeing a close range effort blocked by Conal Gallagher.

Town then had some defending to do of their own.

Connor Newton made a vital intervention as a long throw fell to Lawless deep in the penalty area.

Glossop's Gallagher was then the first to enter the referee's book for a late challenge on Hewitt.

Dainty then came agonizingly close to drawing first blood as he connected with a pin point cross from Hewitt but could only place it wide.

Rogerson then made a stunning save as he tipped a powerful volley from Lawless round the post.

Hewitt then defended superbly as the youngster raced back to prevent Lawless from going through on goal, despite the attacker having a substantial head start.

Luke Smith then came out on top of a 50-50 in the middle of the park and McLean took over.

The left back raced down the line and crossed into Ibrahim.

Unfortunately the attacker was just short of the cross.

The debutant Rogerson was then called into action for the first time, as he did well to hold a fierce 20 yard volley from Oliver McKay.

Glossop then received another booking just before, as captain Oliver Parker was warned for fouling Liam Atkinson.

At half time, ticket number 6860 won the pound for the ground jackpot of £90.

A big thank you to those who entered once again!

As the second 45 got underway, the visitors had a bit of the ball.

Rogerson made another save as he tipped over a dipping effort from Keaton Mulvey.

A wonderful flick from Atkinson then gifted Roberts a key chance on goal but it was palmed away by Brown.

It came out to Hewitt who also saw his effort saved by the 'keeper in quick succession.

Lawless, continuing as Glossop most dangerous player, worked his way into the danger zone before firing just over the top right corner.

Ibrahim received it from Roberts before getting past his man and crossing into Atkinson.

The forward almost wheeled away in celebration as his effort rolled ever so closely into the side netting.

Hewitt then slipped in Luke Smith who superbly chipped it over the advancing Brown.

As the ball was about to go over the line Conal Gallagher raced back and cleared it off the line.

When it doesn't happen for you.

Mitch Marshall then headed fiercely over the bar from an Adams corner.

Ashcroft then went to the bench, replacing Joe Adams with Malick Diakite Tanou, who made his return following his departure in pre-season.

Ibrahim cut inside from the left before firing well wide of the near post.

Then, disaster struck for Longridge.

The visitors broke and Lawless found himself one-on-one with Rogerson.

The striker placed it past the 'keeper to break the deadlock with just over 15 minutes left.

Town then changed again immediately as Luke Smith made way for Jefferson Goncalves.

Tanou dug out a deep cross to the back post towards both Newton and Marshall but neither could connect.

Glossop's Dylan McMahon was then shown the yellow card for a poor tackle on Tanou down the right.

Town then won a free kick 25 yards out.

Roberts could only find the field behind the net as Town chased the leveller.

The goal wouldn't come and Glossop held out for snatch all three points.

One of those games where The Ridge's finishing just let down a fantastic display from the first whistle.

The man of the match, as chosen by the game's mascot Zack, from the Longridge Town junior, was Town's Leighton Hewitt.

A big thanks those who came down and backed the boys as we enter a tough month of fixtures.

We travel to Gigg Lane to take on Bury on Saturday 16th November.

After that, we return home to host Padiham in the second round of the Macron Cup.
