Match Report: Longridge 3-3 Barnoldswick

Connor Philipson30 Nov - 19:00

Barlick battle Town to a point

The Ridge once again had a victory snatched away from them at the death, as Barnoldswick Town pulled level two minutes into injury time at the end of the game.

Town had turned around a 2-1 deficit, courtesy of Liam Atkinson, but couldn't hang on in the dying moments.

With manager Lee Ashcroft serving a touchline ban for an accumulation of yellow cards, assistant Ben Ashcroft took the reigns.

Longridge lined-up with Ethan Edmundson making his first start as the only change from last weekend.

The game began with Barnoldswick on the front foot.

Accrington Stanley loanee goalkeeper James Rogerson was a busy man.

He was first called into action when he reacted brilliantly to deny Ryan Moore from close range.

Oliver Roberts then looked to test the young goalie and fired an effort from 25 yards straight into his arms.

Roberts was then even closer, as he rolled an effort just wide of the far post after cutting in from the left.

The Ridge then took their turn to dominate proceedings.

It started with Leighton Hewitt seeing a cross deflect at goal off Barski, but Callum Jakovlevs reacted well to deny the own goal.

Luke Smith then came close as he powered a free kick at goal from 20 yards but Jakovlevs dived to his left to keep him out well.

The pressure then paid off as Town broke the deadlock.

Papis Touray Touray reacted quickest from a Town free kick from deep to calmly slot it past the 'keeper at the near post.

Rogerson then pulled off an outstanding save to keep Town ahead as he finger tipped wide a powerful effort from former Accrington Stanley team-mate Will Procter.

Unfortunately the lead didn't last, as Leon Creech found the bottom on the Barlick break.

Moore struck the crossbar from 25 yards but would get his goal moments later.

He got on the end of a looping cross to power a header into the top corner to turn the match on it's head.

Town were then forced into a change as Jacob Bridges limped off with Lewis Richmond taking his place.

At half time, ticket number 6910 won the half time pound for the ground jackpot.

A massive thank you to those who entered supporting the club brilliantly again.

Smith received the second booking of the game early into the second half.

Hewitt dug out a cross to the near post and another Barlick defender almost turned it into his own net but it rolled just wide.

Hewitt was then dangerous again as he cut in from the right, fired at goal but Jakovlevs was equal to it again.

Rogerson did well to hold a close range effort from Creech before starting a counter attack.

Town surged forward with Anderton who ran at goal but was hacked down by Brandon Barski.

The defender received a yellow card for his troubles.

Anderton then stepped and fired the free kick into the wall.

Smith looked to follow it up and his first time effort deflected just over the bar.

Anderton was then involved again.

His long range effort was palmed away from goal by the 'keeper.

Atkinson raced onto the loose ball and laid off Mitch Marshall who launched it wide of the far post.

All this pressure would eventually pay off, as Atkinson raced onto a loose ball, beat a defender and rolled it into the bottom corner to level the scoring again.

B.Ashcroft then made a double change, with Jordan Dainty and Malick Diakite Tanou replacing Ethan Edmundson and Papis Touray Touray.

Rogerson then made a fantastic double save as Barlick attacked.

He palmed an effort from the edge of the area into the path of Creech but was fast to come out and throw himself the close range effort to put it wide.

Tanou received it down the right, twisted and turned before beating his man and shooting.

Jakovlevs tipped it wide.

Anderton curled a corner into the box, it seemingly hung in the air and forced the 'keeper into tipping it over the bar.

Town then got their reward again, as Dainty's effort was cleared off the goal-line, but only as far as Atkinson who blasted it home to complete the game's second turnaround.

Anderton departed with five minutes left and was replaced by Basit Yusuff.

Connor Newton went down in the last minute and was seemingly about to come off.

However, the defender pushed through and played on.

Five minutes were added on and the Town faithful's fears came true.

Brandon Barski connected with a corner delivery from the right and nodded it past Rogerson.

It almost got even worse, as Creech found the back of the net but to Town's relief the flag was promptly raised.

The full time whistle blew moments later.

A disappointing end to the game but positives to take and a point to come away with.

We go again at home on Tuesday night when we host Padiham in the second round of the Macron Cup, before Saturday 7th December when we host newly promoted Stockport Town for the first time to conclude a hat-trick of home matches.

A massive thank you for the support tonight.
